Swedish massage

(which is a proper name, not a reference to Sweden) refers to a collection of techniques designed primarily to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. Swedish massage can relax muscles, increase circulation, remove metabolic waste products, help the recipient obtain a feeling of connectedness, a better awareness of their body and the way they use and position it. The strokes and manipulations of Swedish Massage are each conceived as having a specific therapeutic benefit. One of the primary goals of Swedish Massage is to speed venous return from the extremities. Swedish Massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissue of lactic acid, uric acid and other metabolic wastes. It improves circulation without increasing heart load.
It stretches the ligaments and tendons, keeping them supple. Swedish Massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system while at the same time relaxing the nerves themselves. As it can help reduce emotional and physical stress it is often recommended as part of a regular program for stress management.

Aromatherapy massage

Aromatherapy massage is massage therapy with the addition of one or more scented plant oils called essential oils to address specific needs. The massage therapist can select oils that are relaxing, energizing, stress-reducing, balancing, etc. One of the most common essential oils used in aromatherapy massage is lavender.Aromatherapy massage is particularly suited to stress-related conditions or conditions with an emotional component.

Pre-Natal (pregnancy) massage

Pregnancy massage is becoming increasingly popular with expectant mothers. Massage therapists who are certified in pregnancy massage know the proper way to position and support the woman's body during the massage, and how to modify techniques.

Pregnancy massage helps to reduce stress, decrease swelling, relieve aches and pains, and reduce anxiety and depression. The massage is customized to a woman's individual needs.

Lithos Therapy™

Uses heated and chilled Rocks as therapeutic instruments to enhance and prolong the benefits of massage and beauty treatments for the body, face, hands and feet.

Lithos = ancient Greek for "rock"

Lithos Therapy™ is based on the simultaneous use of thermotherapy (heated) and cryotherapy (chilled) techniques. Heat released from the black Rocks works in a similar way as ultrasound, the chilled white Rocks sooth and heal using the same principles as ice therapy.

Why use lithos therapy?

It's healing...

The application of heated and chilled Rocks stimulates your circulation, encouraging the flow of blood enriched with oxygen and nutrients which accelerates healing. Applying heated Rocks to sore muscles eases tension, alleviates stiffness and increases flexibility. The chilled Rocks reduce inflammation.

It's cleansing and deeply relaxing...

The gentle weight of each rock combined with massage helps to push toxins out of the muscles and into the lymphatic system to assist in eliminating metabolic waste. The strategic placement of either heated or chilled rocks on the neck, shoulders, back and arms, prepares the areas for deeper massage. The heated and chilled benefits of the rocks on the body acts immediately, even before the therapist incorporates a massage. The rocks combined with massage, in effect magnifies each massage stroke because the muscle tissue has been 'loosened' by the rocks. The benefits go beyond the therapist’s hands alone.

It's preventative...

Lithos Therapy™ encourages the release of endorphins. When incorporated into a regular health and fitness program, Lithos treatments improve the integrity of soft tissue (muscles, tendons and ligaments) reducing the likelihood of injury. Lithos helps to increase the elasticity of collagen fibres in tendons, promoting greater flexibility.

Lithos features in the following treatments: Jhalu Bliss, Ultimate Lithos, Deluxe Lithos

What a massage therapy session is like

Before your massage, you will be asked to fill in a brief questionairre and review of symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle.

You will be asked to undress, keeping your underwear on, while the massage therapist is out of the room, and lie face down under a sheet on a padded massage table.

The massage therapist will knock on the door to make sure you are ready. The massage therapist re-enters the room and will then adjust the face rest and pillows to ensure that you are comfortable and properly positioned. Tell the massage therapist if you are too warm or cold.

The massage therapist uses a light oil on the skin and begins the massage. At Jhalu, our full body massage usually begins at the feet then moves up the back. You will then be asked to turn over so you are face up. The massage continues on your arms, legs, neck, and abdomen.

You are underneath the sheet at all times, and only the part of the body being treated at any one time is uncovered.

After the massage, the massage therapist leaves the room so you can get changed.

Take your time getting up. If you sit or stand too quickly you may feel lightheaded or dizzy.
